Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use Erie County Residents Directory. By continuing to use the service, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.

1. Nature Of The Service

Erie County Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public record indexes, directory collections, and official custodians in Erie County, New York. It does not host government records and is not connected to an Erie County office, the City of Buffalo, New York State, a court, library, or records custodian.

2. Acceptable Use

Use the service only for a lawful purpose. You may not use information found here or through an outside link to:

  • Stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, or harm any person.
  • Find someone protected by a restraining or protective order.
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, or deception.
  • Make a decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the service at scale.
  • Interfere with the operation, security, or availability of the service.

3. Consumer Reporting Status

Erie County Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. §1681 et seq. Nothing on this service, and nothing returned by a linked search provider, is a consumer report. It may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-regulated purpose.

4. Outside Links

Government portals, library collections, and third-party services have separate terms, privacy policies, access rules, availability, fees, and result practices. We do not control those destinations or promise that a link will remain available.

5. No Warranty

The service is offered “as is” and “as available.” We make no warranty about completeness, accuracy, currency, a linked portal’s operation, or a result returned by any external service. Confirm important details with the official custodian.

6. Liability Limit

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or other damages arising from use of this service or an outside resource, including reliance on a record or search result.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from claims, losses, and reasonable attorneys’ fees caused by your misuse of the service or violation of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original text, logo, design, and layout are protected by applicable law. Linking to a page and quoting a short attributed excerpt is permitted. Republishing full pages or systematically copying the service is not permitted.

9. Revised Terms

We may revise these terms by posting an updated version here. Continued use after publication indicates acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Access Restrictions

We may suspend or restrict access, without notice, when a user violates these terms, compromises security, or abuses the service.

11. New York Law

These terms are governed by New York law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, §§84-90, governs access to existing agency records where it applies, but it does not override a separate confidentiality, sealing, or privacy law.

12. Severability

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the remaining portions remain in effect.

13. Terms Questions
