Information You Send
A name, telephone number, or address entered in a search form is sent to the independent provider that operates the search result. Erie County Residents Directory does not retain a copy of that query on its own servers. If you contact us, we receive the information included in your message and use it to respond.
Automatic Technical Data
Hosting services may create ordinary logs, such as IP address, browser information, page requests, and timestamps. We use aggregate operational information to maintain the service and understand which reference pages are used. Cookies or comparable tools can support basic analytics and advertising measurement where offered.
How Data Is Used
Limited technical and contact data is used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, measure, and improve the reference. We do not sell a visitor list or create individual visitor profiles from ordinary site use.
External Services
Links lead to county and state portals, library collections, archives, and independent search services. Each destination has its own data practices. That is also true of sponsored search results, which are supplied by another company, not by the Erie County records offices or this reference.
Service Providers And Disclosures
Hosting, analytics, and technical support providers can process the limited data described above for us. We disclose information when required by valid legal process or to protect the security of the service, and otherwise do not share it beyond service providers needed to operate it.
Security And Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection. Logs are kept only for the time reasonably needed for security and operational purposes. No account, password, or resident dossier is created by Erie County Residents Directory, which limits the information held here.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If you believe a minor sent information to us, use the contact route so it can be removed.
Access And Correction Requests
You may ask about personal data held in a contact message or ordinary logs. New York’s SHIELD Act, General Business Law §§899-aa and 899-bb, addresses data security and breach notification; the research for this site did not identify a universal New York consumer-data deletion statute. We will review a reasonable request through the Contact page. Official records held by Erie County, Buffalo, or New York agencies are outside our control. Requests to correct, redact, or access those records must go to the relevant custodian under the rule that governs that record, such as New York FOIL, Public Officers Law Article 6, §§84-90.
Policy Changes
Updates will be posted here. Continued use after a posted update means the revised policy applies from that date forward.
